Tired of staring at your quilt top… and freezing?

You’ve pieced the quilt.

Given it a final press...perhaps even basted it if you're quilting at a sit-down machine.

And now you’re stuck.

Scrolling design libraries.  Second-guessing every option, and wondering if you’re about to ruin something you worked so hard on.

You think:

“What if I choose wrong? Will I regret it forever?”

Or “I have no idea what will actually look good on this.”

And perhaps you think to yourself - everyone else seems to just know this!  It seems like they glance at a quilt and pick a design, meanwhile you’re stuck between curves and geometrics…  soft and dense…  bold or subtle.

And the pressure feels real.

Because once it’s quilted… it’s quilted.

Inside this workshop, you'll learn how to choose with clarity.

In Choosing Edge-to-Edge Designs, I’ll teach you my 4-Part Design Filter — the exact question-based method I use when selecting quilting designs.

Instead of guessing, you’ll learn to ask these questions.

When you filter your design through these four lenses, the “right” choice becomes clear.

We’ll cover:

  • How purpose changes your design choice
  • How to quilt differently for a toddler vs a show quilt
  • How to evaluate construction challenges like fullness, bulk, or wavy borders
  • When curvy designs help control fullness
  • How scale of quilting interacts with scale of piecing
  • Why you do not need artistic talent to choose well

Free motion quilting is not magic.

Designs are built from repeatable shapes and logical decisions.

Once you understand the filter, you’ll never look at a quilt the same way again.

Plus a Special Bonus! - Live Quilt Reviews

After the teaching portion, we’ll spend approximately 40 minutes reviewing pre-submitted quilts live on YouTube.

For each selected quilt, I’ll:

  • Share design suggestions drawn directly on your quilt photo
  • Offer 1 to 3 thoughtful design options
  • Walk through exactly why each one could work
  • Break down how I read and evaluate the quilt

You won’t just see what I’d choose. You’ll understand why.

There are multiple valid design choices. This review process teaches you how to think through them.

Want YOUR quilt reviewed by me?

Submit your quilt in advance for a chance to have it reviewed during the workshop.

If selected, your quilt will be reviewed live during the session on YouTube.

You’ll not only gain insight into your own quilt, but learn from watching others analyzed in real time.

Only 20 quilts will be reviewed live.

If you want yours considered, grab your ticket and submit your quilt right away.

Why Learn from Me?

I’ve quilted over 1,500 client quilts.

I run a quilting business where I both quilt and teach.

I have a literal vintage suitcase full of ribbons.

And the question I hear constantly is:

“What should I quilt?”

After answering that question again and again, I realized something.

Most quilters don’t need more design options.

They need a way to decide.

That’s what I’m teaching you.

Common Questions

  • I’m still a beginner. Is this for me?

Yes. This workshop focuses on decision-making, not advanced technical skill. You’ll leave with a simple, repeatable filter you can use immediately.

  • I don’t do free motion quilting.

That’s okay. If you want to start quilting free motion, you absolutely can. I’ll show you simple, approachable designs and how to build your repertoire from repeatable shapes. You do not need artistic talent. You need a clear starting point and a plan.

  • I have no idea what will look good.

Perfect. That’s exactly who this workshop is for.

What students are saying:

  • Linda

Every time I have machine quilted since I started following Susan, I am reminded of the many things I've learned from her about everything from loading the quilt to keeping it flat and straight to the thread color and quilting pattern selection. Sew grateful.

  • Doris

I am learning so much with Susan’s excellent instruction. The course material, watching Susan stitch the designs, and her samples of how the design appears on quilts is so helpful. And all in the comfort of my own home!

  • Lori

I am thoroughly enjoying your videos. They are high quality productions with very, very useful content. I always learn something while watching you and find inspiration to try something new.
